CAMP SURVIVOR CHALLENGE at CAMP RIO BLANCO

Gather up your "Tribes" and head out to Camp Rio Blanco for the "Camp Survivor Challenge". This fun filled weekend will be full of physical and mental challenges, outdoor adventures, arts and crafts, and team building activities. From tribal council, to immunity challenges, to awesome competitions that teach: endurance, problem solving, and teamwork, this camp weekend promises to provide loads of fun and the opportunity to forge memories that will last a lifetime. This will be THE ULTIMATE CAMP EXPERIENCE!
A "tribe" will be a group of four (4) girls each. So if you don't have a group of four girls, ask another troop or some Juliette's if they want to join in with you. Call the council office if you need help in finding other girls.
Register on the form below and list only the 4 girls in that tribe. Each tribe will be on separate forms. Each tribe member and leader will be mailed a packet with more details after registration is received.
Any adult registered with the troop is welcome to attend this event but you must not exceed your girl/adult ratio. For events, trips and group camping, two adults to every 16 Girl Scouts, plus one additional to each additional 8 Girl Scouts.
Note: If the leader of a troop has completed the Girl Scouts of Caprock Council Outdoor Training II, the troop can bring their own tents to stay in. Please inform the facilitator if your troop is staying in your own tents.

Kayaking Workshop
Intro to Whitewater Kayaking

Find out what kayaking is all about! While attending this workshop girls will learn how to properly handle a kayak, safety skills, basic paddling, kayak strokes, and much more. This workshop will fulfill #'s 1, 2, and 3 of the Skill Builders section of the Paddle, Pole and Roll IPA for Cadettes and Seniors. Girls must feel comfortable in the water, and must be confident in their swimming skills. Come dressed to get in the pool.

Physics, Technology, Biology and Chemistry combined! One day, fleets of insect robots may work in all sorts of jobs, from searching crime clues to prospecting for gold. Learn how hornets have inspired the design of robots and then build a crawling hornet with light up eyes and flapping wings. Study this fascinating creature and learn how it builds a nest! Check out linking of greats and electrical circuits which make it walk, and flap its wings. Earn you Wildlife and work toward a selection of other badges.

Cadette/Senior Rockclimbing Workshops
Fundamentals of Rock Climbing

This workshop will teach the basics of rock climbing which includes belaying, knots and climbing techniques. Safety techniques and how to select proper equipment will also be covered. This workshop will fulfill #'s 5 and 6 of the Skill Builders section of the High Adventure IPA for Cadettes and Seniors. Girls need to come dressed in comfortable clothing and tennis shoes.

Design and Create Your Own Style

Girls will take turns draping themselves with different colors of fabrics to learn what looks best. They will design a party dress and the perfect purse. On the second evening, girls will create embroidery and appliqué designs plus a machine-sewn circle quilt square.

Join a CSI team and compete with others to solve the mystery New Orleans style. Workshops include DNA processing, electrophoresis, fingerprinting and trace evidence, crime scene investigation and blood splatter analysis. Learn how to determine the location of the shooter, the victim and the height of both. Forensic Lab will also be opened for an autopsy (optional activity). Watch Hurricane on the Bayou for background research to help you solve the mystery. T-shirts will be available $10.00 at the door (please notify us for special size requests)
