Our History
Caprock Council, 1939-2007
Girl Scouts – Caprock Council was officially created in 1939. Membership included 186 girls, 73 adults and 1 program center in Lubbock. The Council had its earliest roots in 1928, founded with the purpose of inspiring girls with the highest ideals of character, conduct, patriotism and service so they can become happy, resourceful citizens.
By 1939, the roots were firmly planted enabling Caprock Council to fulfill its mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.
Girl Scouting is...

Based on ethical values, it opens up a world of opportunity for girls, working in partnership with adult volunteers. Its sole focus is to meet the special needs of girls."

Girl Scouts of the USA is...
"The largest volunteer organization for girls in the world. It is open to all girls ages 5 through 17 who subscribe to its ideals as stated in the Girl Scout Promise and Law. It is part of a worldwide family of girls and adults in 118 countries through its membership in the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts."
It's Members...
are three million members in five program levels:
- Daisy Girl Scouts, ages 5-6
- Brownie Girl Scouts, ages 6-8
- Junior Girl Scouts, ages 8-11
- Cadette/Senior, ages 11-17
It's Structure...
Girl Scout troops are organized by the 312 Girl Scout councils in the United States. Councils are local units chartered by the national organization to administer and develop Girl Scouting in a council’s jurisdiction.
